William Charles “Bill” Smith, 91, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Collins, MS. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Leakesville where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years and was an active member of Gideons International. After serving over 24 years in The United States Air Force, Mr. Smith spent the next 20 years as Greene County’s Farm Bureau Agent. He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mildred Manasco Smith; son, Gary Eugene Smith; parents, Albert and Elizabeth Smith; brothers, Albert Nathan Smith, Jr. and Robert Aron Smith.
Left to cherish his memories is his son, William L. (Ann) Smith; two daughters, Brenda (Jim) Sutherland and Gayla (Randy) Cowart; sister, Martha Elizabeth Kittrell; brother-in-law, Dr. Tommy Carey; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 11, 2020 from 11 am until 12:45 pm at First Baptist Church of Leakesville. The graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Monday, May 11, 2020 at McLeod Magnolia Cemetery with Rev. Michael Perry officiating. Online condolences may be given at www.freemanleakesville.com.
