John Gavin Brown, 93, passed away at his home in Mt. Pisgah on Sunday, July 8, 2018. For many years he was a mechanic at Brookley Field Air Force Base and spent many years after that in the timber business. As long as he was able, he loved to hunt, garden, and raise all kinds of farm animals. He was also known as a handy man for his family and neighbors. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mandy Brown; brothers, Felton, Kenneth, and Wayne Brown; sister, Lottie Miller; son-in-law, Buster Dearman, daughter-in-law, Darlene Brown; and grandson, Matt Brown.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 68 years, Joan Brown; sons, Melvin Joe Brown and Gary Brown (Lynne); daughters, Camille Brown (Randy), Kay McLeod (Roger), Valerie McLeod (Verlon), and Linda McLeod (George); 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A wake will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 6-9 pm at Mt. Pisgah United Pentecostal Church. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Mt. Pisgah United Pentecostal Church at 11 am with Rev. Karl Causey officiating. Interment will be held in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Jody Brown, Kelvin McLeod, John McLeod, Marcus McLeod, George McLeod, and Dustin Barber will serve as Pall Bearers. Online Condolences may be given at www.freemanleakesville.com.
