Mr. Byron Wood Turner, 76, of Leakesville, passed away Monday, August 12, 2019 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital. Mr. Turner graduated from Leakesville High School and Memphis Technical College where he received his certification. He was employed by Mobile General Hospital and Greene County Hospital. He served on the board for Mississippi Emergency Medical Technician Association. He finished his career with Mississippi Department of Corrections as a warehouse manager. Mr. Turner was a member of Pine Level Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He loved to fish, hunt, camp, music, his animals and most of all, he loved his family.
Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley A. Turner; daughter, Sheryl Elise Turner; parents, William and Roberta Turner; sister, Margaret Sowell; and brother-in-law, W.G. “Shorty” Sowell.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Itina McDonald (Palmer), Barri Noaker (Brian), and Jennifer Churchwell (Preston); son, Byron Turner II (Kim); grandchildren, Zach McDonald (Brittany), Maegan Nichols (fiancé James), Amanda Noaker, Byron Wood Turner III, Gracie Churchwell, Mya Nichols, and Preston Rush Churchwell; nephews, Guynn Sowell, and Bill Sowell; niece, Roberta Prentiss; and long-time friend and companion, Jan Holland.
A wake will be held Friday, August 16, 2019 from 6-9 pm at Freeman Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Saturday, August 17, 2019, 9:30 am at Pine Level Baptist Church with Bro. Michael Perry and Bro. Ron Pierce officiating. Interment will be in the Sweetwater Cemetery. Pallbearers are Bill Sowell, Gary Prentiss, Caleb Prentiss, James Sheffield, Zach McDonald, and Timmy Brown. Honorary pallbearers are Phil Turner and Jimmy Breland.
