A private Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, May 2 at the Rounsaville - Hyatt cemetery for Bernice Hyatt Hight.
Born December 3, 1916, she celebrated her 101st birthday in her Leakesville home with her family and friends and her faithful dog, Jack. Mrs. Hight was born at the Hyatt family homestead in Rounsaville, MS. She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Fred T. Hight, USAF; parents, Dan and Augusta Hyatt.
She is survived by her son, Fred, Jr. (Sandy) Hight of Leakesville and daughter, Anna Hight (John Lidh) of Madison, MS; grandchildren, Daniel Hight and Susanne (Gil) Rustin, and Kelly Anna Lidh; and four amazing great-grandchildren.
While working at the local Post Office, she met the love of her life and husband of 72 years. After WWII, she traveled the world for 30 years as a military wife and mother, before retiring at Keesler AFB in 1968. She spent her long life in Leakesville with family and friends telling stories of local history and her remarkable adventures.
Mrs. Hight was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church of Leakesville. The private Graveside Service will be officiated by David Chandler, Chaplin of Hospice Ministries.
