Jean Gbur Wash, 89, died on Wednesday, March 21, at Greene Rural Health Center in Leakesville, Miss. She had recently moved to Leakesville from Pensacola, Florida, where she had resided for 18 years. Prior to moving to Pensacola in 2000, she lived in Laurel, Mississippi, where she was a payroll administrator for the Laurel City Schools.
Jean was born in Coaldale, Pennsylvania, on December 6, 1928, to Nicholas and Mary Fignar Gbur who preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by her sister, Marie Gbur Ward.
In Pensacola, she volunteered with the Westminster Retirement Village thrift shop and was an active member of the Salvation Army’s water aerobics class for many years. She loved to travel and by her 80th birthday she had visited all 50 states.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in law, Mary Ann and Tony DeSantis of Lady Lake, Florida, and Nora Lynn and Mike Davis of Leakesville, Mississippi, several cousins in Pennsylvania, and her church family from the Living Church of God.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 26, at Sunset Gardens in Laurel, Mississippi, with Rev. Ed Breaux officiating.
