Mrs. Bessie E. Busby Pierce, age 106, a native of the St. Ellen community and resident of Leakesville, Mississippi passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Greene Rural Health Center. She was the matriarch of her family. She was a charter member of First United Pentecostal Church of Leakesville and was faithful for over seventy five years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and church family. She loved gardening, cooking and canning fruit and vegetables. Mrs. Pierce traveled throughout the country and would bring home a collection of rocks and plants that she gathered along the way. She collected recipes and kept a daily journal so her thoughts and memories will live on with her family. Mrs. Pierce was a devout Christian woman living her life as a “virtuous woman” as described in the Bible. She loved reading her Bible, praising the Lord and caring for her family. She made sure that she never forgot a birthday and always sent cards and letters of love to friends and family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, L. L. "Duck" Pierce, Jr.; parents, George Washington Busby and Viola Margret Parker Busby; siblings, Lee Busby, Winborn Busby, George Busby, Zettie Turner and Rubana Busby; grandchildren, Michael Ray Pierce and Cheryl Black Gregory; and great- granddaughter, Stacy Pierce. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Desoto Lamar Pierce (Mildred), Marilyn Pierce Black (Bobby) and Arthur Mac Pierce (Pat); grandchildren, Julie Smith (Terry), Ronzie Pierce (Linda), Gary Pierce (Mary), Deb Pierce, Rebecca Green (Tarryl), Eileen Jenkins (Steve), Teresa Akers (Tommy), Darrell Pierce (Michelle) and Danna Pierce; 24 great grandchildren; 25 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The wake for Mrs. Pierce will be from 5-8 pm Friday, December 22, 2017 at First United Pentecostal Church in Leakesville. The funeral service will be 2 pm Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the church with Rev. Irvis D. Everette and Rev. David Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Sweetwater Cemetery.
